2007-08 Young Artists Concerto Competition
The NHSO Young Artists Concerto Competition is an opportunity for gifted Connecticut music students to audition for a panel of professional musicians and potentially perform with the NHSO. The goal of the competition is to foster, encourage, and reward exceptional, young musical talent in Connecticut and promote excellence in the performing arts.
Prizes:
- First prize winners in each division will be featured soloists in the 2008 Young People’s Concert Series and Family Concert.
- First runners-up will receive a coaching session with NHSO Music Director William Boughton.
- An overall winner will be selected and may receive an opportunity to perform with the NHSO at a Symphony Series Concert in the 2008-09 season.
Eligibility:
Applicants must reside in the state of Connecticut. Connecticut residents studying out of state are also eligible to audition. Instrument and age divisions are as follows:
- Pianists and harpists aged 9-13
- Violin, Viola, Cello and Bassists aged 14-18
- Woodwind, Brass and Percussionists aged 19-22
Competition Details:
All entries must be postmarked by October 10, 2007. The first round of competition will be in New Haven on Saturday, November 3, 2007, 10:00am-4:00pm. Finalists will return on November 17, 2007 for a final round to determine the winners.
Repertoire Information:
Applicants must prepare two accompanied works in contrasting style. Selected works must be movements of concerti, or concert show pieces with orchestra. Applicants must provide their own accompanist.
Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 must accompany the application materials.
