The concert is in association with the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven, and embraces the celebration of “350 years of Jewish life in America.” The concert title, Shared Dreams, alludes to two groups of historically oppressed people, and the choice of repertoire and performers exemplifies this theme. In addition to Dionne Warwick, performers will include: Kersten Stevens, The Afro-Semitic Experience, Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven Choir, Yale Gospel Choir, Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School Orchestra, Amistad Academy Band, and Wexler Grant Elementary School Choir. In addressing the essence of the concert Pak says, “ This year's Martin Luther King Concert will focus on the dream of Dr. King, specifically his dream for universal love and understanding. We will bring together the most diverse and talented artists to celebrate and embrace the richness of the African-American community's contribution to the world of music. From classical to pop, from gospel to jazz, this concert will inspire, entertain and reawaken."
