Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to the concert hall? Follow our driving
directions for Woolsey Hall, Shelton Intermediate School or Fairfield
Quick Center.
Where do I park? We provide
parking information for all of our
main concert locations.
Is there a good place to eat near the
theatre? Great places abound in New Haven. Try
these.
How can I learn about the music?
Preludes at Slifka Center. Starting one hour before each of the subscription concerts, join Maestro Boughton or a guest speaker to hear insights about the music. These engaging, half hour interludes are convenient, enlightening and, best of all, free! Preludes for the Saturday concerts will be held inside Woolsey Hall. (click here for more info)
What should I wear to the performance? You will see patrons in everything from business casual most
evenings to more elegant dresses and suits on Opening Night.
Wear what makes you comfortable.
When do I clap? You should clap
only after a piece is complete, and the conductor has lowered
his or her hands. This means that if you're listening to a
Symphony that has four movements, it is appropriate to clap
after the last movement. You can look at your program book
to find out how many movements a piece has. Usually, there
is a 15- to 30-second pause in between movements.
Can I bring my children? Children under seven are not
encouraged to attend the Symphony Series and the Pops Series,
our regular subscription concerts. The programs for these
concerts are generally too long for children. We do encourage
children and their families to enjoy our summer park concerts
and our Family Fun Days.
When should I arrive?
Concerts begin promptly. Late arrivals will be able to be
seated at an appropriate pause in the performance. If you
have to leave a concert before its end, please do so between
program works.
