Sid Werthan
Madison, CT
Sid Werthan is a conceptual installation artist who utilizes a base of metal
sculpture, found objects, digital photography, video and sound installation
combined with Eastern aesthetics to merge the concepts of Japanese Zen Buddhism,
martial arts doctrine, meditation and the motorcycle.
Sid began his education at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., where he received
a BFA in an independent study combining sculpture, photography and
communications. He went on to receive his Art Diploma, Post Baccalaureate Degree
and Fifth Year Certificate at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,
Mass. From there he attended the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine, where
he received his MFA in conceptual theory and studio art.
His travels to South America and Asia have fueled his exploration in ancient
cultures and facilitated his most recent installations. Sid has maintained his
Metal Way studio in Branford, Ct., since 1997.
